The Gatekeeper 2003 South Australia Shiraz
Splurge a little this holiday season! Buy yourself a bottle of this delicious Shiraz from Australia. It pairs nicely w/ a spicy stuffing or juicy roast among other things. Here’s what has been said about The Gatekeeper:
"Vintaged from Shiraz grapes grown in the wine regions of South Australia. This wine on the bouquet displays luscious sweet berry fruit with a hint of peppery spices, while careful use of oak imparts lingering vanilla and toasty oak. On the palate, plum and cherry flavours and long, soft tannins combine to make a warm, rich yet balanced elegant wine. Maturation in American first and second year hogsheads."
Drink up and enjoy this beautiful wine w/ your holiday feast!!
Sounds tasty?
Did you find this locally in the STL area?
Chris – I found this wine at The Wine Merchant in Clayton, but if they’re out you might find it somewhere else here in St. Louis.
Wine is something I know nothing about but really want to become acquainted with. Seems like it would be a subject that’s a lot of fun to learn more about! My parents have recently gotten really into wine tasting actually, they seem to be enjoying it.
Bruno, I love Australian wines! I usually plan my meals around the wine which makes for a pleasurable dining experience. Cheers!
Ari – Learning more about wines is a lot of fun, especially when it involves tasting! I recommend you find a wine shop nearby that offers free tastings and wine classes for a reasonable fee. A good starter book is “Windows on the World Complete Wine Course” by Kevin Zraly.
Culinary Chase – Australia is producing some excellent wines. Planning your menu around the wine is a lot of fun, especially when you have your wino friends over to partake!
Bruno – I haven’t had an Australian Shiraz that I haven’t loved. There is much truth in enjoying wine much more with friends. I miss sharing a glass with you!
Hey Danielle, good to hear from you! I miss sharing a glass or 2 w/ you too. I’ll send you an e-mail when I get home. Hope you have a great T. Day!
Thanks for the tip. Lovely photo, too…
Thanks Lisa! This wine is worth the splurge and it’s not a big splurge either.
